Attributes

Attributes in the USOR system operate in much the same way that they do in other traditional RPGs.  They are a reflection of the physical and mental abilities of a character.  As such, every character in the game must have a rating on every attribute.

There are ten basic attributes in the game along with Luck, bringing the total attributes to eleven.

The Attributes

Each of the following attributes are important traits to a character but also affect other aspects of the character as well.  Each skill in the game has a base Attribute it is associated with wherein the higher the rating of the Attribute, the greater the bonus rating skills associated with that Attribute will be.  In addition, each Attribute has its own unique set of effects/modifiers on the character’s traits.  They are detailed below:

Physical

  • Strength: Physical strength. Lifting power and muscle. In other words, how strong the character is.
    • The following traits are affected by Strength:
      • Max Weight: the amount of weight that a character can carry
      • Melee Damage: each melee weapon used by the character has increased damage based on a character’s Strength.  The character’s Current Strength rating divided by two is the amount of bonus damage added to a weapon’s total damage.
      • Fist Damage: the higher a character’s Strength rating, the greater fist/bare-handed damage he/she will do
  • Endurance: cardiovascular fitness and resistance to disease; ability to carry on strenuous physical activity for prolonged periods. Allows characters to fight longer in battles.
    • The following traits are affected by Endurance:
      • Vitality: A character’s Vitality is equal to his/her Endurance rating divided by two.  Vitality is used to reduce the damage taken by physical attacks.
  • Coordination: dexterity with hands as well as accuracy at striking with melee and ranged weapons. Also includes hand-eye coordination such as catching and throwing and multi-tasking.
    • The following traits are affected by Coordination:
      • Weapon Skills: A high Coordination adds bonus rating to all Weapon Skills
  • Agility: nimbleness of the body. The ability to dodge things with the body as well as how fast a character can move or run.
    • The following traits are affected by Agility:
      • Dodge: A character’s Dodge score is equal to his/her Agility divided by two
      • Block: A character’s Block score is equal to his/her Agility divided by three
      • Roll: A character’s Roll score is equal to his/her Dodge multiplied by one and a half.  Thus, a character’s Roll score is determined by his/her Agility
      • ATM (Action Time Multiplier): The higher a character’s Agility, the lower his/her ATM.  The lower an ATM, the better.  ATM is used to reduce the time it takes to complete a physical action.
      • Reaction Rating: Agility combined with Perception, determines a character’s Reaction Rating.  Reaction Rating is used to determine Initiative in combat.
  • Beauty: physical attractiveness and hygiene.
    • The following traits are affected by Beauty:
      • Social Points: Beauty, combined with Charm and Luck, determines the total amount Social Points a character has.  Social Points are used to enhance a character’s social status.

    • The following traits are affected by Logic:

  • Willpower: mental fortitude; ability to withstand mental stress and resistance to fear

  • Intuition: the ability to figure things out and gain knowledge and insight through non-rational means. Characters with high Intuition scores have lots of sudden epiphanies that seem to spawn from nowhere. They also display a high degree of common sense.  Characters with high Intuition are said to have high emotional intelligence and are good at reading people’s true motives and hidden intentions.
    • The following traits are affected by Intuition:
      • Non-Weapon Skills: A high Intuition rating provides a small bonus rating to every Non-Weapon Skill in the game.
  • Perception: general awareness and alertness to surroundings.
    • Reaction Rating: Perception combined with Agility, determines a character’s Reaction Rating.  Reaction Rating is used to determine Initiative in combat.
